The
Lodge
. a place well apart...
Only an hour from central Dublin down the M50 and N11, Ballycullen
Lodge is, nevertheless, well away from the hustle and bustle
of the city. It nestles at 800 feet (240 meters) above sea
level under wide skies with views of lush forestry and
a patchwork quilt of farmland, the Irish Sea and even the
north coast of Wales (on a clear day!). Situated just
outside Ashford village, up a picturesque lane for 3.5 miles
and set back from the road, you'll seek us out. It is completely
private, a secret haven for you to
enjoy & explore and be well in the beautiful Wicklow mountains.
Ballycullen Lodge is a lovingly restored and extended 1850s
traditional Irish stone cottage, boasting a wealth of local
stone, wood and stained glass. The work was carried out by
knowledgeable craftsmen and gifted artists from the Wicklow
area. The result is a triumph; integrating the very best of
21st century comfort and luxury, with the authenticity and
character of 150 years of history. We are particularly proud
of our original wattle-and-daub fire canopy, one of very few
remaining in Ireland!
You can enjoy spectacular views from your pillow, if you
choose to have breakfast in bed! Alternatively, you can explore
the 360 degree panorama from a vantage point on the 5 acre
grounds, only five minutes walk from the breakfast table.
The choice is yours!
The lodge was formerly owned by the late Richard Burton.
Neighbours remember the limousine and the champagne picnics
on the hill. Come and visit, there are many stories
