Be inspired by the quiet natural beauty of Wicklow.
Wicklow Mountains National Park
The National Park which covers much of upland Wicklow, contains
an area of approximately 20,000 hectares (49,420 acres). This
includes large areas of mountain blanket bogs, including the
Lugnaquilla and Liffey Head Bog complexes and Glendalough
Wood Nature Reserve. The National Park provides protection
for the landscape and the wildlife, from rare orchids to the
wild and beautiful Peregrine Falcon.
Opportunities abound for bird-watching, from inside and around
the Lodge. Even rare birds can be spotted locally. You could
just enjoy the birds on our garden, or take part in the National
Dawn Chorus Day in May. BirdWatch Ireland's East Coast Nature
Reserve in Newcastle is only 20 minutes down the road. They
host special events in June. Check out www.BirdWatchIreland.ie
for more ornithological inspiration.
The Information Point and the Education Centre for the National
Park are located 30 minutes away in nearby Glendalough Valley.
The Education Centre provides a range of courses and tours
for schoolchildren, students and other groups. These are related
to nature conservation and the ecology of the National Park.
We took a very enjoyable "Wicklow Tree" walking
tour recently and were most impressed with our lady Ranger
guide!
The centre is accessible for people with disabilities.
